ALBION knew a win Thursday night at home to basement side Rossin Rovers would see them top of the pile in Division 2 for Christmas.

They much the brighter of the two teams with their first chance of the game falling to Evan Corlett but his close range shot was tipped around the post by the Rossin Rovers netminder.

Albion’s midfield of Steo Martin and Jack Reynolds were worked hard in the opening and never really given the chance to get the ball down. Rossin pressured Albion high up the pitch but Albion played a patient game.

Albion’s opening goal came on 40 minutes when Helder Goncalves struck a shot from 20 yards out to the bottom corner of the net after Rossin failed to clear a corner.

Early in the second half Albion had Niall McDonnell to thank for keeping the scoreline level with a fantastic double save from a Rossin free kick.

Albion went down the pitch only seconds later and Evan Corlett was quickest in a race with the onrushing keeper and he finished to and empty net meaning he has now scored in 15 consecutiv­e games for Albion Rovers this season.

Number three would soon follow as Jack Reynolds rattled the bar with a free kick from 30 yards and Albion’s Steo Martin was quickest to react, heading home from 10 yards out.

Albion kept the best for last with three subs combining to see young starlet Conor McQuillan grab his first senior goal on only his second appearance after a great bit of play from AJ Byrne and debutant Ciaran McCann.

Best for Albion on the day were McCann, Walsh, Corlett and Man of the Match Jack Reynolds.
