Fears over reduced Duleek parking

-

COUNCILLORS say they have received representations about reduced public parking in Duleek due to the new look streetscape in the village.

Huge improvements have taken place around the church area in recent months.

However, some businesses are not happy.

‘I have had complaints about the lack of parking on the left hand side of the road here,’ Cllr Eimear Ferguson stated. Cllr Stephen McKee felt that the parking bay wasn’t needed and was taking up three spaces alone. He said there were issues with people getting into the laundrette. ‘It’s not just there. This looks well on paper but not in fact,’ he added. ‘Businesses are suffering.’

But addressing the concerns at a recent council meeting, engineer Christy Clarke said there were actually five extra spaces while some others are being used for ‘full day parking’ by people.

Cllr Sharon Keogan said she didn’t have an issue with the loading bay because the area has ‘massive potential’ for the future.

‘Give it a bit more time,’ she urged. ‘There is a lot more parking on the street but it might be 20 steps more than usual. We don’t have a traffic warden and we don’t want to see one.’ Cllr Sharon Tolan said the new look was beautiful and asked for one for Bettystown!
