Plans advanced for new look Bettystown

FIVE IDEAS NOW SHORTLISTED FOR NEW LOOK TO BEACH ENTRANCE

- BY HUBERT MURPHY

A NEW beachfront design is set to transform the centre of Bettystown, with a building to house lifeguards, beach wardens, a cafe, changing rooms and toilets.

But one of the main issues facing those who secure the contract is whether to retain the present buildings on the leff of the entrance.

Initial reports suggest that they may have to be knocked as keeping them would be ‘cost prohibitive’.

The design will be known by the first week in March and it is hoped that the project will be completed by the end of 2019.

As part of the process, submissions were accepted from the public on the project with many feeling that parking should be removed from the beach and that there should be a dog free zone.

There were fears about closing the Mornington access.

Discussions are also set to begin about a new car parking area in Bettystown, a local area council meeting was told.

It is hoped to secure between 400 and 800 spaces, depending on the location.

Both Cllr Sharon Keogan and Sharon Tolan made calls for full time beach manager/wardens.

‘There are serious parking issues in the village,’ Cllr Tolan added.
