‘A kayak will be the only thing entering Annagassan harbour shortly,’ local councillor Pearse McGeough claims.

The councillor raised the ongoing issues at the harbour at the Ardee area council meeting, stating that something had to be done.

‘Can the sediment be flushed out?’ he appealed. He said the heavy flow of the river is silting up the harbour and it is proving a major problem for users of the harbour.

He has raised the issue on a number of occasions but the main problem is funding to overcome environmental issues.

The area is a natural area of protection and all aspects of that must be maintained.

However, he has highlighted the plight of fishermen on a consistent basis and says something must be done.
