Local houses for people leaving emergency accommodation
Louth Councillors agreed to the handing over of seven properties to Dundalk Simon Community on a short term lease.
The houses, five of which are located in Dundalk, and two in Drogheda, are part of a programme to assist people who are leaving emergency accommodation.
Director of Services for Housing, Joe McGuinness explained that the houses are being set aside for people who are making the transition from emergency accommodation such as hotels, hostels and B&B’s into long term social housing.
The properties are being funded by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government.
He explained that they are being made available on a short term lease to Dundalk Simon Community.
But once there is no longer a necessity for interim properties the seven houses would then simply revert back to being used by the local authority for social housing.
