Animal charity funding
Two local animal charities are to benefit from €25,000 funding under the Department of Agriculture’s Animal Welfare Scheme.
Drogheda Animal Rescue (DAR), the charity which looks after and rehomes thousands of dogs and cats each year, will received €20,000.
Mollies Animal Rescue in Duleek, Co Meath, who also help animals in need of care who are abandoned or neglected, is to receive €5,000.
Funding of €23,000 has been awarded to Louth SPCA in Dundalk and a further €7,000 has been allocated to Dundalk Dog Rescue in Walterstown, Castlebellingham.
The Minister for Agriculture has confirmed that there will be a record allocation this year and that the funding will be distributed to all areas of animal welfare.
The news has been welcomed by local TD Fergus O’Dowd who said: ‘Local organisations such as Drogheda Animal Rescue and the Louth SPCA provide vital animal support services and awareness for the general public, their organisations help educate people on the responsibilities that go hand in hand with animal ownership.
‘My sincere thanks to all the staff and volunteers who dedicate themselves to this area.’
