Tommy’s darts team win first title

In an action-packed Paul Mohan Cup final before a big attendance in the A.O.H. Club, Tommy’s scored a 5-2 victory over the Threeway Bar to take their first Drogheda Darts League Trophy.

Mickey Collins despite being outscored by Jackie Curran finished well give Tommy’s first blood. John Gerghty came from behind to beat his old rival John Sullivan and increase that lead. Mickey Thornton was in excellent form beating John McGowan for the Threeways first victory and Patsy Kenny was unlucky not to finish in 12 darts when beating Raymond Wolfe to leave the score 3-2 at the interval.

Dod Kelly put Tommy’s in the driving seat when he beat Jim McKeown and Philip Branigan clinched the trophy beating Jackie Fallon as the winners supporters went wild with excitement.

League secretary Liam Reilly presented the Paul Mohan Cup to the winning captain Danny Kierans and congratula­ted both teams for a top-class final.

Tommys victory brought to an end the dominance of the Threeways and the Market Bar.
