When was the last time Fair Street was properly cleaned?

-

OPEN letter: Mr. Paddy Donnelly, Director of Services, Louth County Council. C.C. Drogheda Borough Councillors DEAR Mr. Donnelly,

I would be grateful if you could let me know when was the last time that the footpaths and roadway in Fair Street were swept (I estimate that it was at least two weeks ago), and when it is planned that they will next be swept.

The attached photographs fail to do justice to the thoroughly disgusting state in which the street is currently, or to the accumulation of filth through which my wife and children have had to make their way every day over the Christmas period.

I fully appreciate that the Council staff are entitled to their Christmas holidays. That, however, does not explain, let alone excuse, the fact that the street was not swept for so long before Christmas, and has not been swept on any of the working days since.

As one of Drogheda’s principal streets, Fair Street has experienced considerably increased traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian, over the Christmas period. This is also a time when there have been many visitors to the town, and the shameful condition of Fair Street will not have done anything for the town’s image. This is particularly regrettable as we prepare to host the Fleadh Ceoil.

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Yours, Patrick Carr, Fair Street, Drogheda.
