St Patrick’s Day to herald arrival of 2018 Fleadh

-

ST. Patrick’s Day is turning into a weekend festival for 2018 with the theme of celebrating Irish Culture – the year of the Fleadh. A weekend long celebration of Irish culture, music, language, song and dance is planned to turn the town into a colourful celebration of all that is good about Irish culture.

With Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann being held in Drogheda this August it is hoped that the weekend Festival will give local people and visitors a taste of the Fleadh. The Parade committee are putting a call out for local participants and organisations to get behind the parade in 2018.

Isabel Sanroma Director of the Drogheda Parade urged the local community to get behind the St. Patrick’s Festival weekend.

“Over the last few years we have seen a huge increase in the interest in Irish culture in the Drogheda area, particularly with young people, and the numbers learning traditional Irish music have soared. The St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee have enjoyed great co-operation from all sections of the community over the last 30 plus years and we are urging community groups, schools, musicians and artists, retailers, publicans and citizens to become engaged with the festival and the exciting year ahead culturally for Drogheda.

“In particular we are looking for more marching bands to join the parade, and it would be great if all parade entries themed themselves around “Celebrating Irish Culture – The Year of The Fleadh”. We are also looking for venues to host Irish Cultural events over the weekend, get in touch with us with the details and we will add them to the weekend programme” said Isabel.
