Local councillor condemns Rathmullen dumping

-

A Local Councillor has condemned those who dumped rubbish on the footpath from Rathmullen along the St Nicholas’ GFC ground to Marley’s Lane.

Councillor David Saurin said he was appalled by what he had witnessed at the site and said people have a responsibility to dispose of their own waste.

Speaking after visiting the area to witness the dumping firsthand, Cllr Saurin said: ‘It’s disgusting and totally irresponsible and disrespectful for anyone to dump their rubbish like this. This rubbish is causing an infestation of rats along this route which schoolchildren use to access the local schools.

‘Ppeople who do this are damaging the local community and need to desist from this illegal dumping and littering immediately. Why should anyone else have to clean up after them? Everyone has a responsibility to dispose of their waste in a legal and controlled manner.’

Councillor Saurin encouraged residents in the area who witness this activity to contact the litter warden and report those responsible.

‘I am also calling on Louth County Council to step up litter warden patrols in the area and to rigorously pursue and prosecute those found engaging in illegal dumping of waste,’ he added.

The Louth County Council number for reporting litter is Lo-call 1890 202303 and anyone found littering face fines on conviction of between €150 - €3,000.
