Ardee denied by late Trim equaliser

TRIM CELTIC ARDEE CELTIC 1 1

AN 85th-minute Trim equaliser denied strugglers Ardee Celtic what would have been only their second league win of the season at Tully Park on Sunday.

Darryn Gaynor’s early goal set the Deesiders on their way to a shock victory, capitalising on lax player from the home side’s goalkeeper. He was too slow in making a clearing kick, allowing Gaynor to chased down the ball which ricocheted off his leg and into the net.

Trim responded by calling Stuart Reynolds into action, the stopper saving before an effort went narrowly wide of his goal.

At the other end Ross Gaynor’s header was saved, but having survived the relative onslaught and started the second half well, Ardee were pegged back.

Trim had scored - or so they thought. A Trim man in an offside position tapped the ball in from a set piece. However, having failed to raise his flag, the official called for the referee and the goal was ruled out.

The home side, arguably the better team in the second half, went close again after a quick counter-attack ended with Oisin McGee’s deflection taking the ball away from goal.

At that stage Ardee perhaps thought it was going to be their day, but five minutes from time Derek Donohoe rose above his marker to head past Reynolds - his 150th goal for Trim Celtic - to leave the away side still in relegation trouble, albeit with several games in hand.

ARDEE CELTIC: Stuart Reynolds, Robbie Reynolds, Niall Sharkey, Oisin McGee, Ciaran Clarke, Mikey Nulty, Stuart Osbourne, Ross Gaynor, Lorcan Myles, Gareth Kane, Darryn Gaynor.
