LOCAL woman Ann Johnson, who is visually impaired, met with Mayor Pio Smith and an engineer from Drogheda Municipal District last week to discuss what can be done to improve accessibility and convenience for those with visual impairments and other disabilities.
The group travelled around town assessing various locations and what could be done to improve the situation generally around town.
Speaking to the Drogheda Independent after the meeting, Ann said: ‘We did highlight some of these issues before including the traffic lights at Hardman’s Gardens where the sound is very low and hard to hear at the crossing. The engineer said today that if it’s in a residential area it can only go to a certain level so the sound can’t be too high, which I thought was unusual because it would still be no louder than the sound of the passing traffic and the houses are quite a way away from where the crossing is.’ Ann’s visual impairment
