Meath CC apply for funds for Beamore crossing

- By FIONA MAGENNIS

MEATH County Council (MCC) is to apply for funding for a pedestrian crossing to improve safety for school pupils and pedestrians at Beamore Road junction with Meadowview, it has been revealed.

The issue was raised in a Notice of Motion by at the January meeting of Drogheda Municipal District.

A call was made for Louth County Council (LCC) to install a zebra crossing on the Beamore Road/Meadowview junction to facilitate the safe crossing of this road for residents from Rosevale and all the estates along this stretch of road and particularly for children attending the local schools at morning and evening rush hours.

Responding to the motion, a spokesperson for LCC said Rosevale is situated in both Meath and Louth County Council areas.

‘A meeting took place in October 2017 between Louth and Meath council officials regarding proposals to improve the safety for pedestrians/school pupils crossing at the Beamore Road/Bryanstown Cross Route junction at Meadowview,’ they said.

It was agreed at this meeting that a signalised pedestrian crossing in Meath County Council’s area along with footpath improvements was appropriate at the location.

The council said funding for these works is to be applied for by Meath County Council as a safety improvement scheme for 2018.
