OVER €2,000 RAISED FROM ‘DINE AND GIVE’
THERE’S a lot more to Drogheda’s best restaurants than delicious food and good service if the success of Drogheda Homeless Aid’s fourth ‘Dine and Give’ campaign is anything to go by.
The concept is simple; participating restaurants displayed information cards on tables describing the work the charity does and diners were asked to leave a small donation to help towards the costs of delivering front line services to people experiencing homelessness in the community.
Donations were collected by servers at the end of each sitting and 100% of donations were given to the charity at the end of the month long campaign.
In its fourth year this simple but effective fund raiser struck a chord with Drogheda’s diners and raised a total of €2819.57 thanks to the kind participation of The Lime Kiln Gastropub Julianstown, Relish Café’s (Highlanes, Southgate and Bettystown), Eastern Seaboard, Barefood Company and D’Vine.
‘Dine and Give’ founder Austin Campbell is thankful for the generosity of diners and participating restaurants: “The month long campaign shows how much can be achieved when we work together as a community. Every restaurant and every diner contributed to making ‘Dine and Give’ a great community initiative, bringing change to the lives of those less fortunate.
We should be proud of our local businesses for reaching out and supporting local charity and I would call on all local ‘foodies’ to do likewise and give their support to the towns restaurants. Together as a community we can grow stronger and move towards brighter horizons in 2018.”
Adrian Cummins, CEO of Restaurants Association of Ireland, who kindly endorsed the initiative added: “Restaurants Association of Ireland are delighted to endorse the ‘Dine and Give’ campaign. As with our own benevolent fund we are always looking for ways to help those who have fallen on hard times and this campaign proved an opportunity for us to do so.
“Dine and Give is such a wonderful way for us and for our customers to come together and help out,’ Shauna Browning, staff member at Lime Kiln said.
