Boyne teams through to nationals

-

TWO of the Boyne AC teams qualified for the upcoming National Cross-Country Relays after some great performances at the Athletics Leinster Relays & Masters Championships in Dunboyne on Sunday.

Firsrt into action were the Under-12 Girls who ran over the shorter distance of 250m, and some fine running saw them finish fifth overall thanks to a super effort from Kate Culhane, Shola Lawrence, Isabella Garcia and Eimear Cooney.

The Boys Under-12 team of Lorcan Forde Dunne, Alex Robertson, Emmet McEvoy and Shea O’Donnell all ran superbly, with a strong start from Lorcan helping take the boys to an early third position. Robertson took the baton and held that placing well, as did McEvoy who ran strongly to pass to O’Donnell. Shea fought hard to overtake the second place athlete, but just crossed the line at the same time, with second place given to the other team, However, these young men proudly accepted their bronze medal and now qualify for the upcoming National event.

Boyne’s Boys Under-14 team were the clear winners of the silver medal, with great runs over 500m from all four athletes, namely Danny Nugent, Neil Culhane, Paddy Price and Aaron Fennel. However, it was Culhane who passed out two athletes in the last few metres to help secure second spot.

In the Masters Ladies 4k Sally Clarke ran well to finish 22nd and was part of the winning ladies county team along with Karen McDonnell and Nicola Welsh of Dunleer AC.
