They found it Oliver - no need for violence!

CITY STATUS GROUP KICK UP A STORM AFTER 3,000 PETITIONS GO MISSING IN LEINSTER HOUSE

- By HUBERT MURPHY

PUT away the sword Oliver - they’ve found it!

That was the scenario for members of the City Status group for Drogheda who found all their hard work had been ‘ lost’ in Leinster House.

Last November, amidst a fanfare of olden days (Oliver Cromwell dressed in his attire) the City Status group handed in a petition with 3,000 names on it.

It called, quite simply, for the town to be made a city. They didn’t hear anything back from the Joint Committee on Public Petitions and became a little concerned that their calls were not being put to the forefront.

On making contact, they were told that no petition was handed in!

That sparked a few strong words of protest and low and behold, within days, the petition was found!

The petition is now being looked at and it is hoped will have an impact on future decisions that take place without due consideration of the country’s biggest town.

It is believed Oliver Cromwell has now settled down - but he’s still up for a fight if Drogheda does not get its way in the coming months.
