Five-month sentence for assault on garda detective

-

A five-month sentence has been handed down to Darren Connors (19), 47 Townspark, Navan, after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a garda detective.

The court heard he was being taken out of the back seat of a car, when he struck Det. Gda. Kathryn Christie to the right side of her face with his right hand.

Connors also attempted to kick her.

The offence occurred at Waterunder, Drogheda, on 18 May, 2017.

Solicitor, Dermot Monahan said his client was not thinking straight at the time.

He didn’t mean it. His adrenalin was pumping after a chase.

However, in imposing a sentence, Judge Coughlan said the gardaí must be protected.

Bail for an appeal was set at €100.
