Let’s begin talks for a ‘toll holiday’ into Drogheda town for the week of the Fleadh Cheoil in August

-

I WAS in conversation recently with someone from the town who was travelling from Dundalk to Drogheda on the M1.

They missed the turn before the cable bridge and then had to go on and pay €1.90 to get home at the Donore Road exit!

To say they were annoyed would be an understatement!. It wasn’t so much the price but more the issue - having to PAY to enter Drogheda.

Then I wondered about the Fleadh. From August 12-19th next, thousands upon thousands of people will be coming to Drogheda and many, coming from the north in particular, may not know the difference between the two entry points for the town.

If they miss one, they have to PAY a toll to enter the town. They’ll think we are real rip off merchants around here! So, a proposal. Could the event organisers behind the Fleadh and the gardai commence talks with the toll operators and look for a permanent ‘ barrier up - toll holiday’ system at the Donore Road tolls for the week of August 12-19th.

It would be greatly appreciated by everyone and would be a magnificent gesture from the toll operators (I’d even give them a mention!)

How about it?
