Kellie does Dunleer proud

-

YOUNG Kellie Sheridan summed up what cross-country running was all about when she did Dunleer AC proud in Sunday’s Blackrock AC event in Haggardstown.

Conditions were mucky to say the least, but after winning the Under-7 Girls race Kellie was heard to say ‘That was real cross-country’. She is clearly wise beyond her years!

Another winner for Dunleer AC was National Cross-Country Under-12 champion Erinn Leavy, with the other juveniles all performing very well and securing some minor medals and high finishing positions.

Meanwhile, Dunleer AC is preparing for the highlight of the cross-country calendar, the Rás na hÉireann, which takes place on Sunday February 18th at Oldbridge House, Drogheda.

This event, hosted by Dunleer AC, promotes cross-country races for Under-9 to Under-17 boys and girls, as well as ladies and men’s junior, senior and masters races - 4km for the ladies and 6km for the men.

This event was first launched in 1971 and over the years has seen course changes, various sponsors and a host of national and international heroes gaining the honours.

This year Dunleer AC is delighted that the OPW has once again agreed to the hosting of the event at the historic Battle of the Boyne site at Oldbridge.

Rás na hÉireann means so much to the cross-country community who come together each year to compete and to honour the memories of those who worked hard to organise and promote the event, Larry Mc Guill and Louis Duffin, as well as the memories of two Dunleer AC athletes who lost their lives in their prime of life, Noel Mc Guill and Sandra Floyd. Cups will be presented in their memories by family members.

Online entry for the Rás is open at www.register. primoevents.com and details can be accessed on the Dunleer AC Facebook page.

The Dunleer AC and Louth Athletics ladies are meanwhile looking forward to the Drogheda Independent Sports Awards this coming Saturday night as the Louth ladies have been nominated for the Team of the Year award, with voting still ongoing. athletics
