Promising St Cianan’s duo hit form

-

ADAM Connell and Sean O’Brien produced two of the best performances of their fledgling careers to win gold for Duleek club St Cianan’s BC at the recent Armagh Down Championships.

First into action was Connell as he took on a very strong opponent from St Malachy’s in Armagh, and the St Cianan’s boxer lost the first round. However, he showed great heart to fight back and win the next two and take the overall victory.

Connell had lost out in the finals at the Louth Open before Christmas, but came back stronger than ever, trained like never before and has now got his reward.

In his bout, O’Brien won despite getting a count in the first round from a very strong opponent from Gilford, Co Down. The St Cianan’s boxer fought back and won the next two rounds clearly in what was his toughest fight to date.

Ben Lynagh’s opponent pulled out due to sickness and Elise Carey and Jack McKenna also had to concede walkovers as no one in their category weighed in.

The St Cianan’s youngsters were coached by Thomas Brodigan and the club have thanked him for his efforts and also sponsors Blacktop Tarmacadam and all the committee members working dayto-day behind the scenes.
