Death of Clement Macartney-Filgate
WE regret to announce the death of Mr. Clement Macartney-Filgate of Stedalt, Co. Meath, which sad event occurred at his residence on Wednesday of last week.
Son of the late Mr. Townley Macartney-Filgate of Lowther, Co. Dublin, the deceased gentleman was on the staff of the Commissioner at Scotland Yard for several years before the War and in his occupation of that office won many encomiums.
An amiable and unassuming type of Irish gentleman he had a large circle of friends in Counties Meath, Louth and Dublin, and his loss will be keenly felt by the poor people of the Stamullen district to whom he ever extended a ready charity. He married Miss Lucy Moore of Stedalt, who survives him as well as one son, a boy of 18.
The funeral took place to Julianstown on Friday and the service was conducted in the Parish Church, the Rector, Rev. George Fry officiating. The chief mourners were:—Mrs. Macartney-Filgate (widow); Mr. Brian Macartney-Filgate (son); Miss Aileen Macartney-Filgate (sister); Major Dermot Macartney-Filgate (brother); General Smith Bingham, C.M.G., D,S.O and Mrs. Bingham and Mr. Frank Hargreves. Captain and Mrs. Macartney-Filgate and Colonel Arthur Macartney-Filgate were unavoidably prevented from attending.
