Gardaí investigat­e phone charger row assault on shopkeeper

GARDAI are investigat­ing a shocking and brutal attack on a local shopkeeper on Wednesday, January 17th.

The incident happened at around 1.35pm at a premises in William Street in Ardee.

A man entered the shop looking for an iphone charger.

He subsequent­ly started an argument over the cost of the charger and lunged at the shopkeeper, punching him and knocking him to the ground.

Another customer entered the shop and shouted at the culprit who then fled the premises in the direction of John Street.

The man involved in the attack was carrying a bottle of Liptons tea and what looked like a food roll wrapped up.

Anyone with any informatio­n on what gardaí have described as ‘a nasty incident’ is asked to contact Ardee Garda Station on (041) 6853222.

Meanwhile, a substantia­l amount of damage was caused to a family home in Rosevale after an attempted break-in at the house on Tuesday, January 23rd.

The incident happened sometime between midday and 1.3pm.

The culprits didn’t gain entry to the house but attempted to force both the front door of the property and one of the window frames, causing €500 worth of damage.
