Youth allegedly had knife

A TEENAGER who was allegedly armed with a knife to allegedly seek revenge on his sister’s ex boyfriend has been granted bail at Drogheda District Court.

The teenager, who cannot be identified as he is underage, was brought to the court last Friday, January 26th where an outline of the alleged facts of the case were given for Judge John Coughlan to consider granting him bail.

Sergeant Ray Brady said it is alleged gardai were called to Laurence Street on August 12th, 2017 at 9.30am where they met the teenager who allegedly was in a highly agitated state.

A member of the public handed gardai a knife which they alleged the teen was carrying.

‘It is alleged the teenager wanted to get revenge on his sister’s ex boyfriend after he was allegedly assaulted by him,’ said Sgt Brady.

The teen, who has no previous conviction­s, hasn’t come to garda attention since, the court heard.

Judge John Coughlan said it is a ‘potentiall­y serious case’ but granted the teen bail and adjourned the case for two weeks for mention on February 9th.

The teen is charged with being in possession of the knife under Section 9 of the Firearm Offences.
