‘Carney’s adventure continues
Donacarney 3 Caherdavin Cel 1
DONACARNEY Celtic can look forward to another home tie in the last 16 of the Under-12 SFAI Cup following this thrilling victory over Limerick opposition on Sunday afternoon.
The keenly fought tie played at Castlemartin produced endto-end action and inside the first 10 minutes Donacarney’s Alex Wade proved a handful and had a couple of chances, with Caherdavin also having opportunities at the other end.
The splendidly marshalled Donacarney defence, especially goalkeeper Jamie Gamble who pulled off some spectacular saves, frustrated the visitors and a long kickout from Gamble and a great first touch from Jake Hough sent him clear of the defence to calmly slot the ball under the advancing keeper on the 20-minute mark.
It remained 1-0 at half-time with all to play for in the windy conditions.
The second half continued in the same vein, with chances at both ends, until a mix-up in the Limerick team’s defence gave Wade the chance to increase the lead to two goals.
Almost immediately a lapse in concentration from Donacarney led to Caherdavin’s left winger reducing the deficit to 2-1 on the 40-minute mark, but with 10 minutes to go Wade sealed victory when he pounced on a loose ball to slot home number three for the home team.
Their last-16 tie will take place in mid February against the winners of Nenagh v Westport United and Donacarney Celtic would like to congratulate the players, coaches and all the supporters who turned out at the weekend to support the team.
