CARRICK CRUISERS DROGHEDA SPARKS 45 66

DROGHEDA Sparks Under-16 girls completed an impressive comeback to win comfortably away to Carrick Cruisers on Sunday.

The visitors trailed for much of the game as the Carrick team made better use of their ball possession and picked off their scores, while Sparks’ offense stuttered.

Scores from Kate Kelly and Ava Briscoe just about kept Sparks in touch as Carrick closed the first half six points up.

However, a change in defense type by Sparks coach Gar MacCriosta changed the game and Sparks were up and running as they pressed the home team into turnovers which were converted into scores.

By the end of the third quarter Sparks led 45-38, the scoring was free-flowing and all their players chipped in with baskets.

Abby Rice and Ciara Nic Criosta had strong fourth quarters as Sparks ran up their highest score for the season to date, closing out the game winners by some 21 points.

The Sparks Under-12s and Under-14s were in action too, with both teams coming up short against their Carrick counterparts.
