Sean has collected movie posters for years

-

POSTMASTER Sean Farrelly has an array of posters that any collector would give his eye teeth for. His batch of 200 film publicity posters dating from the late forties and fifties would be any collectors dream.

Sean came by the collection by salvaging them from a skip when Ardee’s old cinema closed down in the mid seventies.

“The cinema had been closed and the building was being converted into a community centre. The contractors were in and were throwing out all sorts of things and the posters were on a skip,” he said.

Sean’s family had been involved in the cinema and cinema posters collection and photography business for several generations and he knew it would be a terrible waste to see the beautiful posters destroyed.

Sean worked in the Bohemian Cinema, Ardee, as a youngster.

The Bohemian Cinema, Ardee, closed down in the mid seventies and was taken over by the DLS Past Pupils Union, who later became Ardee Community Charities and the building became a community centre.

The Farrelly family have been running Ardee’s post office for generations.
