Garda warning over rise in tool thefts

-

GARDAI in Drogheda have warned those who keep work tools in vehicles to be very aware of where they park up.

A series of incidents have taken place in recent weeks, with some vehicles found to be unsecured at the time of the thefts.

‘ There has been a significant increase in incidents and we would urge trades people to take extra precautions when they park anywhere.

‘Make sure your vehicle is locked, even outside your homes, and try not to make the items visible.

‘ There have been a number of break ins recently and we are looking into those incidents at the moment,’ Supt Andrew Watters stated this week.

He has also urged people to ‘mark’ their tools so they can be traced.

‘ There are a huge amount of tools recovered at various times but they have no identification marks or signs and therefore a lot of the time the owners cannot be traced.

He says the gardai in Drogheda would urge anyone in the trade to ask the community gardai for advice on how to mark their tools so they can be easily identified if they are recovered.

Last week alone, three vans feel victim to thieves with a number of items taken.

It is believed that a lot of the equipment is being stolen for export.
