Peter wins the first Mr Gay Louth title
LOCAL man Peter Nugent was thrilled to be named Mr Gay Louth 2018 at the county final which took place in Drogheda last week.
Mr Nugent (32) said he was ‘absolutely thrilled’ to win the competition and is looking forward to taking part in the national final, Mr Gay Ireland 2018, which takes place in March down in Cork.
He faced tough competition from the other finalists, Jonathan Khan (21), Jeffrey Nilson (56) and Brian Floody (59), all of whom are from the Drogheda area.
Unfortunately, some of the other finalists had to pull out due to other commitments but a fantastic night was had by all who attended the final in The Barbican on Tuesday, January 30th.
‘I’m thrilled to have won and can’t wait to go on to the national final now in Cork,’ Peter told the Drogheda Independent. ‘It was a brilliant night, everyone really enjoyed it and the celebrations continued after the competition wrapped up.’
Mr Gay Ireland 2018 will take place in Chambers Bar in Cork for what will be its 13th year.
The winner of Mr Gay Ireland will go on to compete in the Mr Gay World competition, raising funds and awareness worldwide for LGBTQ rights.
The Drogheda competition was hosted by Kelly Kierans who questioned each of the finalists on the local LGBTQ community, raising awareness for gay rights and how they were represent Louth if they won the competition.
The judges on the night, Councillor Joanna Byrne, Paul Carroll from Funky Fashion Frolics and Janice Keegan, were all impressed with the high calibre of the participants before eventually chosing Peter as their overall winner.
Peter said his fellow contestants were all extremely supportive of his win and some may even hopefully travel down to Cork for the final in March in a show of solidarity and support.
Peter is the current Chairman of the Drogheda LGBTQ society, which was established in the town two years ago and established Drogheda’s first Pride festival.
