A Night at the Opera comes to Drogheda

Drogheda Classical Music Series has teamed up with Irish National Opera to being a Night at the Opera to Drogheda.

The event will feature a cast of singers who can perform almost all of the operatic repertoire on February 16th.

Irish National Opera is Ireland’s new national opera company set up by local musician and conductor, Fergus Sheil to present six of the leading Irish opera singers. Accompanie­d by pianist Andrew Synnott, the singers will perform a selection of arias, duets, quartets and ensembles from the wonderful world of opera.

This is a concert that is guaranteed to thrill and excite as these singers perform some of the best known and most-loved hits from the most popular operas. Those in attendance can expect humour, heartbreak, ravishing melodies, virtuosic singing and an all round great evening of entertainm­ent.

The six singers are all starting out on their profession­al careers, many with their feet in the door of the opera companies. Soprano Muireann Mulrooney has performed many roles with Irish and UK opera companies and is currently on the prestigiou­s Opera Works programme at English National Opera in London. Amy Ní Fhearaigh was a big hit with audiences when she last performed in Drogheda and has been selected as one of the singers to watch by Goldenplec.com Mezzo soprano Carolyn Holt is paving her way for a great career in London and a recent recipient of the Trench Award. Tenor Andrew Gavin is late to join the world of music but is making significan­t waves in the opera world with roles in Opera Theatre Company and winner of the PWC/Wexford Festival Opera Emerging Young Artist bursary.
