Spanish debating competition
St Oliver’s Community College wins the Plate in the National Spanish debating competition for the second time in three years.
This competition is open to schools all around the country and showcases the Spanish linguistic skills of secondary students. 24 teams started out in September and after five rounds of debates, over five months, St. Oliver’s came headto-head with Loreto Beaufort, Rathfarnham in the Plate final which was held in the Spanish Institute, Dublin. The motion “Technology is isolating” was hotly debated by both sides, and the motion was defeated by St. Oliver’s. The teams members, Nicole Vultur (Captain), Joseph Catlett, Kotryna Krystavaite and Andrej Gorochov, and teacher Cora McDonnell, were highly praised by the judges and Joseph was also award the “Best Speaker” award for his outstanding rebuttal.
