LMETB AWARDS HONOUR GREAT WORK OF PUPILS
SPECIAL AWARD FOR JACK SYNNOTT FROM ST OLIVER’S COLLEGE
THE annual LMETB presentation of Awards for outstanding achievement in Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied Examinations took place in the City North Hotel where former LMETB students/learners, their parents/guardians, former Principals, Deputies, Centre co-ordinators, teachers/tutors and their extended family and friends were all on hand to celebrate.
Opening the ceremony, Ms. Fiona Kindlon, Director of Schools, LMETB welcomed all and stated that “this awards evening is a very special occasion for everyone present as we are reflecting on, celebrating and acknowledging the successes and achievements of our students/learners and also thanking our school leaders/centre co-ordinators and their teams of teaching and tutor staff for the role they have played in assisting, guiding and directing our award winners here this evening to move to the next phase of their education career or to enter into the world of work.” Ms. Kindlon also addressed the award winners stating that “You symbolise everything we aim to do in LMETB around educating people to very high standards. You are role models and ambassadors for LMETB.
In all 40 presentations were made with students representing LMETB’s schools and centres.
Schools and centres from Louth included Scoil Uí Mhuirí, O’Fiaich College, Youthreach Dundalk, Bush Post Primary, Youthreach Drogheda and St. Oliver’s Community College Drogheda.
Schools and centres from Co. Meath included Beaufort College, Navan, Dunshaughlin Community College, Colaiste na hInse, Laytown, Colaiste Pobail, Rathcairn, O’ Carolan College, Nobber, Youthreach Progression, Navan, Ratoath College, Colaiste Clavin, Longwood and St. Peter’s College, Dunboyne.
Each student was presented with an engraved piece of crystal, a medal and a certificate and they were presented with their awards by their former Principal/ Deputy or Centre Co-ordinator/tutor along with members of the LMETB Board.
A special merit award was presented to the overall highest achiever in LMETB, Jack Synott, who was a student at St. Oliver’s Community College, Drogheda. Mr. John Halpin, Principal, St. Oliver’s Community College, Drogheda outlined that Jack was one of the 13 students in Ireland who received 8 H1 grades and an additional 9th H grade. Mr. Halpin congratulated Jack, who with the support of his parents and teachers achieved maximum grades entirely independent of the grinds culture and while maintaining involvement with extra-curricular activities both at St. Oliver’s Community College and outside school.
Chairperson of the LMETB Mr. Tomas Sharkey complimented the parents, the teachers, the school Principals and most of all the students themselves on their outstanding achievement. He said that “results of this nature can only be achieved by the combination of hard work by students, exceptional teaching skills by teachers, support from family and active and visionary leadership by the outstanding school Principals/Deputies and Centre Co-ordinator who lead educational provision in LMETB.
Closing the Awards Ceremony, Ms. Fiona Kindlon, Director of Schools, congratulated the students and wished them well in their studies at DCU, UCD, PLC Colleges, Institutes of Technology, Maynooth University and Trinity College to name but a few.
