Bayview House is haven for drug dealing says councillor

-

LOUTH County Council (LCC) has been urged to take action to address the growing problems with anti-social behaviour at the derelict Bayview House on the Dublin Road.

Councillor Richie Culhane raised the issue at the February meeting of Drogheda Municipal District claiming the site is a haven for drug dealing and local dumping.

‘I know I’ve raised this before but something needs to be done. I’m blue in the face bringing it up; the situation is such a public hazard, we’ve had fires, there’s drug dealing going on up there, public dumping, it’s a hazen for rodents,’ said Councillor Culhane.

‘We are going to see a fatality there. I know the council has done some work there and has boarded up the windows upstairs. It is like a public dump, there’s vermon and rats.

‘I think it’s time the owner or owners are forced to take some action to address this situation,’ he added.

Responding to the concerns raised by Councillor Culhane, Senior Engineer Pat Finn said the Conservation Officer has served notice in the past in relation to the building itself. He said he would discuss the issue with the conservation officer again and bring a report to the next meeting. Bayview House, which was built between 1850 and 1855, has previously been identified in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage 2006. According to the Daft Property Price Register, Bayview House was sold back in 2012 for €475,000 but since then has fallen further and further into disrepair.
