One man killed in Ardee traffic accident

A man in his 50s has died following a car accident at Townparks, Ardee on Sunday evening.

The man sustained fatal injuries after his car left the road and hit a tree.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 5.30pm on Sunday evening.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He was alone in the car at the time and there was no other vehicle involved, gardai said.

Gardai are investigat­ing the circumstan­ces of the accident.

A Garda spokespers­on confirmed they are investigat­ing the circumstan­ces surroundin­g a fatal road traffic collision which occurred on Sunday, February 11th.

The road remained closed for a number of hours overnight on Sunday but has since reopened following an examinatio­n of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigat­ors.

The collision happened on the Bog Road between Ardee and Drumconrat­h.

The fatality is the third crash tragedy to hit the local area in the past fortnight.

Last week the area was left devastated by the deaths of local women Claire Mullen, a tour guide at Bru na Boinne in Newgrange, and Keady Clifford, the daughter of local couple Archie Clifford and Linda Balfe.
