The event is turning into a weekend of celebrations to mark the momentous occasion of the Fleadh coming to Drogheda for the first time this summer.

Up to half a million people are expected to descend on Drogheda for th Fleadh from all parts of the world.

With a theme of celebrating Irish Cultures there will be a wide array of events planned for St Patrick’s Day and beyond celebrating music, language song and dance that is sure to bring plenty of colour and festivity to town to mark our patron saint’s day.

Mr Lynch said plans for the upcoming parade are at an advanced stage and are going well.

The committee are due to meet with An Garda Siochana and Louth County Council this week to discuss practical issues, including the parade route.

With plans also well underway for the Fleadh Cheoil in August, it is hoped the weekend St Patrick’s Day festiveal will give people a taste of what is to come this summer.

‘It is great to see the Fleadh Committee getting so involved,’ said Mr Lynch. ‘ There will be plenty of Ceoil agus Craic for the weekend with music and various events taking place.’

He said the committee are now appealing for local groups, organisations and participants to get involved and enter the parade.

The committee are hoping those who do sign up to participate in the parade will theme their entries around the ‘Celebrating Irish Culture - The Year of the Fleadh’ banner.
