Break-ins at local businesses investigat­ed

Gardaí in Drogheda are investigat­ing after a number of break-ins at local business premises in Drogheda over the past week.

Last Monday, Burke’s Restaurant on Peter Street was broken inot overnight. The door of the premises had been forced and a small sum of cash taken. On the night of the 6th, an attempt was made to break-in to Eurospar on Bredin Street. The culprits attempted to gain entry to the property but fled the scene after the alarm was activated.

An attempt was also made to break in to Value Centre in the Newgrange Business Park on the same night. Outer metal sheeting from the building was but but again in this instance the alarm was activated and entry was not gained to the property.

On Monday morning, February 12th a number of windows were damaged at Hair Design and Beauty on James Street. The premises was ransacked and a substantia­l amount of damage was caused.

A number of local homes in the Drogheda area were also broken into over the past week. A house in Boice Court was targeted on Wednesday, February 7th sometime between 7pm and 9.30pm. Entry to the property was gain via the back door and a small amount of jewellery and cash was taken. Also on the 7th, a house in Loughboy was broken into at around 8pm in the evening. Entry was gained via the front door and the house was ransacked by nothing appears to have been taken.

On the same evening, sometime between 7pm and 10.45pm, a house in Silverstre­am Avenue, Stameen was broken into and some items of jewellery were stolen. The following day, a house in Park View, Grange Rath was broken into sometime between 12pm and 9pm.

A rear patio window of the house was smashed, the house was ransacked and three handheld tablets were stolen.

A large rock was thrown through the front window of a house in Laurence Park last Tuesday at around 11.30pm. A front window was also smashed on a property on John Street at around 4.30pm and the front window of a house on the Chord Road was also broken overnight between February 10th and 11th.
