Anthony Moore wants ‘to get knocking on doors’

-

THE Fianna Fail selection convention held in the Ballymascanlon Hotel last week, saw sitting TD Declan Breathnach top the poll, with South Louth / East Meath contender Anthony Moore in second place, and Dundalk councillor Emma Coffey coming third.

Chaired by Dublin Senator Gerry Horkan, the convention was a lively affair as over 200 delegates and supporters of the candidates crowded into the conference room to cast their votes and make their views known. Delegates demanded that the party take two seats at the next general election.

A number of party members from South Louth and East Meath stressed to Senator Horkan that a seat was available in this part of the constituency and they made it clear to the chair that their favoured candidate was Anthony Moore and that an imposed candidate would not be accepted by the membership this time.

Speaking to the Drogheda Independent, one long-standing member said that the party locally had gone on a major recruitment drive in the last year and that there would be a huge canvassing team available to help him over the line if he gets the nod from party headquarters.

After the results were announced, the candidates addressed the delegates and thanked them for their support. Deputy Breathnach said that he believed it was possible to win two seats for the party at the next election and would do all he could to achieve that.

‘We had a great turnout from South Louth and East Meath even though the convention was held in the Ballymac and it was snowing hard. The fact that my supporters came out in their droves despite all that shows that they are right behind me in our efforts to get a second FF seat here and will come out in all weathers to do so.

‘It was great to get the endorsement on the night of our local councillor Tommy Byrne and our former general election candidate Frank Maher. That shows great unity and confidence in my campaign and we cannot wait to start knocking doors and making the case for a FF seat in Drogheda, South Louth and East Meath,’ Anthony Moore said.
