Gala Cleaners began business back in 1965 in Peter Street

THERE’S always questions being asked about the oldest business in town or how long has a firm been on the go.

I came across a story about Gala Cleaners on Peter Street and once also of Shop Street.

Gala Cleaners commenced business in July 1965 in Peter St. Later it opened a second premises at the bottom of Shop St. but this had to make way for the new St Mary’s bridge development and it moved up to number 13.

Frank Flynn was manager back in the 90s - having been there from the start - with Dora Hall and Mary Marry also on the staff.
