Marks on a high after flying start
DULEEK athlete Keith Marks heads into this weekend’s National Senior Indoor Championships with confidence high after some outstanding results to start the season.
The DCU student, formerly of Cushinstown AC but now competing for top Dublin club Clonliffe Harriers, competed in the National Indoor Varsities Championships in Athlone last Friday and came away with two golds and one silver medal.
He finished first in the high jump (1.90m) and long jump (6.88m) and then ran the third leg of the 4x200m relay where DCU finished second and went on to take first overall in the team competition.
Marks had kicked off his 2018 indoor season two weeks ago in the Under-23 National Indoor Championships in Abbotstown where he earned his third National Indoor long jump title in a row.
His best effort measured 7.16m after a consistent series that also featured jumps of 6.70m, 6.88m, 7.09m and 7.07m, and in doing so Marks set a new Clonliffe Harriers club indoor record.
The weekend before last Marks competed in the National Indoor Club League Final where he helped Clonliffe Harriers successfully retain the National title. He got maximum points in the long jump, with a best of 7.15m.
The following day he competed in the AAI Games in the National Indoor Arena where he claimed the Senior Men’s high jump title with a best jump of 1.90m and ran 7.09sec -a personal best - in the Senior Men’s 60m.
