Gogan sets the ball rolling for Cushinstown

-

NO fewer than 12 athletes represented Cushinstown AC on Saturday on day one of the Leinster Indoor Championships and they returned home with a good haul of medals.

Isabella Gogan started the ball rolling with two third places thanks to a great jump of 4.38m in the U-13 long jump and a fine run in the 60m sprint.

In the U-14 shot putt Roisin McManus won the silver medal with a great throw of 9.27m and she was also placed seventh after qualifying for the final of the 60m. That race was won by her clubmate Laura Bolster.

Aine O’Sullivan put in a fantastic performance in the U-16 shot putt to land the silver medal with a throw of 9.21m.

There was a great performance by Orlaith Quinn who was very unlucky to just miss out on the medals in the U-16 long jump.

In the U-15 long jump the club had four athletes competing, with Niamh Quinn’s PB of 4.47m helping her finish in sixth position and good jumping also by Niamh Cahill, Amy Callaghan and Mollie White.

On the track there were many great performances in the very competitive 60m sprints. Both Loclainn Harris (U-14) and Niamh Cahill (U-15) ran well in their heats and were unfortunate not to get through to the finals, while Mollie White put in a great performance to get through to the U-15 60m final, finishing fifth overall.

Two of Cushinstown’s younger athletes - Jyles Gogan and Nia Hederton - were competing for the first time in the championships and put in great performances in the U-12 high jump and 60m sprint respectively.
