League knockout line-up begins to take shape
MARINER’S victory over doomed Boyne Rovers on Friday night leaves them in pole position to join Greyhound, Carranstown and Sally Inn in the Duleek & District League Premier Division knockout stages.
The top three are all level on points with two rounds remaining, with the team finishing at the summit progressing straight to the Premier Division Final, and they will be joined by either Mariner or Lantern Bar.
In Division 1 either Matthews or Maguires will most likely finish top, with Boyne Valley Inn and Carranstown B well set to join them in the knockout stages.
Five teams are still in the shake-up in Division 2, with Thatch C and Grennans now leading the way after fellow challengers Foxs suffered a shock defeat to Watters.
In Division 3 it’s a similar story, with five teams battling for four knockout places and Sally Inn, Mariner B and Railway Bar currently setting the pace.
Meanwhile, there is still time to enter the upcoming League Doubles Competition, which takes place on Sunday February 25th in the Westcourt Hotel, Drogheda.
A Lower Division Singles - for Division 2 and 3 teams - will be on the same day, with the registration deadline at 1.30pm.
The draws take place on Thursday 22nd in the Carranstown Lodge, Duleek, at 8.30pm and entries must be in by then.
The entry fee is €10 per player and there will be a minimum prize fund of €1,000, with various spot prizes, charity raffle, first-round losers competition and Fosters promotion.
