Carroll makes the final cut

JAMES Carroll of St Oliver’s Community College and Drogheda United has been named in the final 18-man FAI Schools squad for the Centenary Shield competition, which begins with a game away to Wales this Thursday.

Games against England, Northern Ireland and Scotland will also take place over the next few weeks as the Republic bid to claim the trophy that was shared by England and Northern Ireland last year.

Carroll, who also represented his country in this tournament 12 months ago, is a member of Drogheda United’s first-team squad this year and has featured in some of their pre-season friendlies.
