McKee seeks road safety measures at Colmcilles

-

EAST Meath Fianna Fáil Councillor Stephen McKee is calling on Meath County Council to provide for traffic management and road safety measures on the Piltown Road close to St.Colmcilles GAA Club.

McKee, stated: ‘As local people know, the Piltown Road is extremely busy and there is a serious road safety issue particularly outside the grounds of St.Colmcilles GFC. St.Colmcilles are the largest GAA club in Meath, serving the Dublin Road area of Drogheda, Beamore, Mornington, Donacarney, Bettystown and Laytown, an area of some 30,000 people, and the Club has over 2000 members.

‘ That has put a lot of pressure on the Piltown Road and there is no footpath either to link the Club grounds to Bettystown village. The Club provide Gaelic Games coaching and games to 3,000 local school children free on a weekly basis from September to May each year and to more than 250 children from age 4 upwards from April – September.

‘I am asking that Meath County Council take action and put in place safety measures to deal with the ongoing problem. This has become a matter of great concern to the Club and local people I have spoken with’ concluded McKee.
