It’s a free for all with deer shot and rave parties

A designated mountain bike and trail bike circuit should be developed at Townley Hall woods, according to local councillor Frank Gordfrey.

He made the call at a public meeting last week, saying the estate body, Coilite, needs to take responsibility for the location on the Slane Road.

He claims trees have been cleared to make way for racing circuits and the bikers are ‘destroying the area’s natural tranquility’.

He says he is sympathetic to the needs of the bikers as well and advises that an area should be set aside for them.

He feels a plan is needed for the 60 acre site as he’s been informed of break ins to cars parked there, the poaching of wild deer on the grounds and rave parties in the woods.

Instead, he feels a tea room facility needs to be set up, along with information signs.

‘It is presently a free for all in Townley Hall and we need a proper management plan for it,’ he stated.
