Thatch pub reroofing

Also at the February meeting, Councillor Bell raised the issue of The Thatch pub on the Donore Road which is due to have the thatch roof replaced.

He said a grant had been allocated for this but there is a hold up because the walls of the cottage are not stable and need to be reinforced.

‘Can we have a response from the engineer on that, what’s happening with the wall as it is holding up the thatching process,’ he said. ‘ There is funding in place for that and I’m concious that we have a lot of visitors due to come in to town for the Fleadh this summer.’

Senior Engineer Pat Finn said the works required are more extensive than first thought.

He said he would organise a report from the conservation officer for the next meeting.
