Parking in disabled bays - paint them!

-

THEY know how to do things right in Duleek.

In recent months, I have seen the council transform the area around the church, with ramps put in, raised tables, properly marked with yellow paint, and bus stops painted red - so you know they are bus stops.

But what really caught my eye are the disabled parking spaces.

They have been clearly marked and painted in blue paint. You just can’t miss them - so no excuses if you park there and get a fine for it (although with no traffic warden, I wonder who hands out the fines?).

In Drogheda, it’s a different scenario and the disabled parking space opposite Bru on Wellington Quay is a point I’d raise.

The space is right at the corner and it’s simply not marked.

There is a sign on a pole beside it, but how often do people park, get out, get a ticket in the machine, place it in the car and walk off.

And it’s even worse at night. Cars often park in the space, unaware it’s designated.

What needs to happen around the town is for the disabled parking spaces to be properly painted and marked - just like Duleek.

It did happen on Fair Street at one stage but the paint seemed to just wash away.

Ask the crew in Meath CC for their supplier!
