FF’s Anthony wants lights at bridge junction
FIANNA Fail’s Anthony Moore has called for urgent consideration to be given by the Council to installing traffic lights at the junction of the Rathmullen Road and the duel carriageway.
He explained that such lights would serve a two-fold purpose, namely helping to relieve congestion on the Rathmullen Road and reducing the risk of traffic accidents at the junction with the dual carriageway.
“By and large, there is no difficulty accessing the dual carriageway from the Rathmullen Road. But that changes at peak traffic times on the dual carriageway, resulting in the Rathmullen Road becoming hugely congested. This is because there are no lights to regulate traffic flow, which is hugely frustrating and time-consuming for the motorists on the road who are stuck in the resultant traffic jam, whether they be mothers on the way home after dropping their children to school or people on the way to work. They have all spoken to me about this and want action on it,’ he stated.
“More importantly, however, the lack of lights increases the risk of traffic accidents as motorists try to get onto the carriageway in the face of oncoming traffic and sometimes end up taking chances that they shouldn’t. There have been a number of accidents already and there will be a fatality sooner or later unless action is taken.
“The Council can easily solve this problem by installing traffic lights and programming them in such a way that they only kick in at peak times. That will make the south side of Drogheda a better place to live and a safer place to drive.”
