Assistance is on way for Rathmullen over dumping
Councillor Paul Bell has given a broad welcome to Louth County Council’s decision to secure funding from the Department of Local Government to support the residents of Rathmullan Park and surrounding estates in their fight against illegal dumping which has unfortunately reached epic proportions.
“I have been supporting residents in Rathmullan Park, St Finian’s Park, Ballsgrove and Hillview fight against the impact of illegal dumping which is now on an industrial scale in these areas.
‘ The funding which amounts to €2,000,000 nationally is aimed at supporting Local Authorities in the fight against dumping blackspots and I can confirm that Louth County Council have identified two estates in the County one of which is Rathmullan Park which will benefit from a focussed and funded campaign”. Said Bell
He clarified the programme which the funding will assist “The first issue to be addressed is to support the community through the use of modern technologies to record illegal dumping activities.
‘ These technologies will include CCTV cameras in dumping blackspots and the commissioning of covert CCTV which has been a demand by many communities in the fight against antisocial behaviour and illegal activities surrounding dumping.
‘A new feature will also be the purchasing and deployment of drones which have proved to be extremely successful in Dublin local authorities in their campaigns to detect those involved this antisocial and illegal activity”.
“I can also confirm that the litter warden service will receive funding to support house calls to confirm that tenants are disposing of their waste legally.
‘ These calls will also focus on tenants suspected of burning waste and will also take place after normal business hours and weekends. I encourage all citizens to support the initiatives which this special funding will support”. Bell concluded
