Hungrier Rossies are too strong for Royals in ladies showdown

-

ROSCOMMON MEATH 2-9 0-12

ROSCOMMON’S greater hunger proved the difference as Meath went down to defeat in the NFL Division 3 at Trim on Sunday.

Both of the Roscommon goals arrived in the opening half and that helped them to a 2-5 to 0-8 interval advantage.

Stacey Grimes and Niamh O’Sullivan were in fine scoring form for Meath in the opening half, during which they lost keeper Judy Bobbett to injury.

However, Meath were unable to match the visitors’ intensity and their hopes weren’t helped by a yellow card for midfielder Maire O’Shaughnessy.

Next up for Meath is an away clash against Leitrim.

MEATH: Judy Bobbett; Niamh Lister, Orlagh Lally, Sarah Powderly; Emma Troy, Michelle Peel, Aoibhin Cleary; Kate Byrne, Maire O’Shaughnessy 0-1; Emma White 0-1, Niamh O’Sullivan 0-3, Aoibhin Cleary; Stacey Grimes 0-3, Vikki Wall 0-1, Orla Byrne 0-1. Subs: Laurie McLean for Bobbett, Katie Newe for Lister, Shauna Ennis 0-1 for Peel, Marion Farrelly for O Byrne, Bláthnaid Keogh for White, Niamh Gallogly 0-1.
