Seconds come first in league

WHILE things didn’t go to plan on the adjoining pitch, a big crowd watched Boyne 2nds side clinch the Division 1A 2nds League title with a hardfought 19-17 win over Ashbourne at Shamrock Lodge last Saturday.

This team have had a remarkable record this season under coach Robert Shuttlewor­th in going through their league campaign with only one defeat and have clinched the silverware with two games still to play.

Results elsewhere went favourably to leave Boyne’s position unassailab­le and the celebratio­ns commenced after the match.

The League Committee would like to thank the board sponsors, individual­s who supplied spot prizes for the charity raffle - which raised just over €400 on the day - the management and staff of the Westcourt Hotel for all their help, assistance and sponsorshi­p, and of course League sponsors Fosters who had a promotion on the day.

Afterwards committee members presented all the winning players with their trophies and prize-money involved, with money being awarded down to the last 16 in the main competitio­n and last four in the plate event. eve

Attention A now turns to the Doubles Do Competitio­n on Sunday day February 25th, also in the We Westcourt Hotel, with a lower div divisional singles competitio­n for Division 2 and 3 players on the day also. The deadline for en entries is Thursday 22nd, with the draw that same night in Du Duleek’s Carranstow­n Lodge at 8.3 8.30. On the day of competitio­n the registrati­on deadline is 1.30 as the action begins at 2pm sha sharp.
