‘Don’t waste €300,000 already spent on bypass’

MEATH County Council are to update councillor­s in a response to an emergency motion about the prospect of securing funding in the Capital Plan for Duleek Bypass.

Cllrs Sharon Keogan and Stephen McKee delivered a united message at last week’s area council meeting, calling for funding to be made available to forward the project.

‘ The route has been selected and €300,000 spent on it and we don’t want that money wasted,’ Cllr Keogan stated.

She called for funding for a full design and a topographi­cal survey, preparing it for a Part 8 planning applicatio­n.

‘We need to get it back on the agenda. Maybe we haven’t been active enough,’ she added.

Cllr McKee said it needed to be to the forefront as it was a long term solution to the traffic issues in the village.

The motion called for the council to secure funding in the capital investment fund for design consultant­s for ther project.

Director of Services Fiona Lawless said they would respond to the request at the next area meeting and a history of the plan would be provided.
